Yeah, Twittermethis is almost dead. It's too hard to think up questions that are not google-able in 2 seconds. Been searching for someone who can take it over.
Marky Zark... dude. The gig is up.
Go get yourself the Genius edition of trivial pursuit and take questions from that - they're damn hard!
I bet they're still Googleable. That's the hard part... finding what Google doesn't know.
Dude, Marky Zark must be an idiot if he thought that the people he was hating on would not be able to trace down his identify, home address, SS#, workplace, DOB, bank account numbers, etc. Don't pick on geeks!
Signed,
the Mystery Man
"Don't pick on geeks."
At least on our turf. In the real world, it's much safer.
I think you covered something really important - anonymity and the internet. When people think they're anonymous, their balls seem to grow.
I have no problem with people exercising their 1st amendment rights, but if you have to hide behind a curtain you're a coward. When people make (critical) anonymous comments on my blog or forum they get deleted. I may not agree with some people's opinions, but I respect their right to say it - as long as they have the courage to use their real identity.
At first blush I thought it was you guys up to your usual tomfoolery, but after taking the time to read it I realized you guys were dealing with a hater... Still, I'm surprised Jim tweeted it - why would you want to bring attention to a spoof blog? I'm sure you brought more traffic to it than it would have received on it's own merits.
The geekcast was amusing to me... maybe not useful in terms of geek tech stuff, but hilariously entertaining without a doubt! That's okay with me always.
I almost wish the Marky Zark thing was still up because I missed that whole debacle somehow. But at the same time I'm glad that it's not up because there's no reason to hate. I was one of the people that totally fell for the shenanigans... hindsight being 20/20 I don't know how I fell for it but whatever it's all good... no reason to hate just because of that.
Glad to hear it amused someone.
And do you think Marky Zark can just clean up all traces and walk away?
...thus the title of this blog post.
Oh no, I don't think he's gotten away scott free at all (no pun intended there). When you Google Marky Zark though the only thing that comes up with a direct match is this post :/.
We've got plenty of screen captures from the now mythical site.
You're holdin' out on me lol
Don't worry... I follow you all enough to know that one of you will let the cat out of the bag.
This is like an episode of the Days of our Lives
Marky Zark showed up to a professional geek fight with a slingshot in his back pocket -- completely unprepared.
I still can't believe he didn't think that he wouldn't be found out.
You're a class-act Jangro, for not stooping to his level and outing him.
Thanks Missy, though I don't know that he can go without outing forever.
Even so, in my opinion, doing so wouldn't be stooping to that level of cowardice, bad humor, or bad taste.
I just pulled up my saved version of the site and read it again. After putting myself in your shoes, I realize that you're right. I guess if he was ballsy enough to put the site up, he should deal have to deal with the repurcussions.
While I've never been a big believer in "an eye for an eye", in this case, envoking the "out clause" would be substantiated ;-)
W00t.
Hi Scott,
I really start to dig your podcasts. Have you seen Snapvine? I attempted to "voice blog" today. If you have time check it out and let me know what you think.
Thanks for sharing about buying your new MacBook Pro. I am still undecided which model to get but it looks like leaning away from iMac.
Talking about anonymity and haters. I have been subjected to a some what similar or maybe worse via Yahoo! Answers. But at the end of the day it is impossible to not leave any traces. The bottom line is when you engage in stupid activity you tend to make stupid mistakes.
Is the plugin you talk about by any chance called TDO Mini Forms?
Hi Vlad. Thanks much!
I did listen to your voiceblog today but didn't get a chance to check
out that service you used. Whatever it takes, keep it up. I'm liking
audio better than video at this point. I don't have to worry about my
hair.
And yes it is tdo mini forms. I forgot to link to that. I knew there
was a link I missed.
And you're right about the stupid behavior. Stupid is as stupid does.
I don't know what that means but this seems like the right time to say
it. ;)
Hey Jangro, congrats on the guest appearance! Marky Zark should get a life though...
I use gTalk as a twitter client but only for tracking keywords. I find it works really well - just like the stock ticker you describe. It doesn't matter if I miss stuff for 3 days because it is just a news feed.
I use Twhirl for conventional Twitter but only follow 26 people because I am a fussy so and so.
For really important people (friends), I explicitly read their FriendFeed streams to catch all the stuff I care about.
