Affiliate Fitness Update and Some L*nk L*ve
26 July 2007 – 9:54 amToday marks two weeks of my getting into shape efforts.
Laundry is becoming an issue, as expected. I dropped a few hundred at Dick’s Sporting Goods last night on shirts, shorts, and socks. I looked like nicky-new-guy on a first day of school this morning.
I’m happy to report that I’ve kept up my initial ambitious regimen, running 6 miles for each of 2-3 days in a row with one day rest in between. This week I ran Sunday evening, Monday am, Tuesday am, rested Wed, and early this morning (to beat the heat). That’s a total of 24 miles so far this week.
Going to try to squeeze one more in tomorrow morning before starting a bachelor party weekend on Friday noon and then a week of vacation on Martha’s Vineyard starting Sunday night where there will be plenty of opportunity to get some running in. Looking forward to some seaside runs.
Goals
I set my initial goal at 165. With the weight swings that comes along with the frequent workouts it is difficult to nail down my weight. A six mile run is good for an immediate loss of 2-3 lbs. So while it’s fun to step on the scale after a run (173 this morning), my real weight is probably somewhere around 176, for a loss of about 3 lbs.
Plus, I’d hope that some of the weight has shifted over to new muscle. In any case, I’m pretty happy with the results so far.
Come to think of it, a weight goal is probably the wrong approach. I don’t really care what the scale says. What’s more important is being happy about how I look and feel. Or something a little more measurable, like getting comfortably into pair of pants with a 30″ waist (got a couple inches to go there). Some heavier muscle elsewhere doesn’t affect that one.
Thanks!

You Help Me, I’ll Help You
If you haven’t figured it out by now, some encouraging words by you here on my blog or elsewhere will get you a mention in a subsequent post. It’s the least I can do.
BUT, if you’re going to be my friend (or even just pretend), post your comment with your name or initials. Don’t stuff spammy keywords in the name field for obvious SEO benefit. Don’t use me. It’s annoying.
“sex toys” and “palm coast”, I’ll use you guys as an example. Be real. Post with a non-spammy comment name and you’ll get much better back in return.

Good job!! I can’t believe you are running 6 miles 3X a week this fresh into your program. Although I am proud of you, this thought totally kills me… seriously. I can run about 3 straight but only after MONTHS of training, lol! MEN! ARGH!

Thanks Anne!
It’s more like 4-5x/week, but who’s counting. (I am!

You were doing 6 miles days 3 times a week as soon as you started. I’m jealous too! And I like how I got a non-link link

I think it would be fun to have a bloggers exercise challenge. People could start their weigh in at any public function, such as SES and track it through several months. This would be a healthy way to inspire positive change. The winner gets some SERIOUS link love.

Scott - You animal! Way to go. I used to run however I was involved in a serious accident and can no longer run or jog. I get my exercise by using the Total Gym - and it keeps me in pretty good shape. Kudos to you, man.

I don’t like running outside. I’d much, MUCH rather run inside, with air conditioning, on a treadmill, watching television. Time running seems to go by so much faster when you’re watching the news.
Of course, you don’t have the added motivation of having to run back home from wherever you’ve run to, either. It’s nice to be able to stop when you want, not when you get home.

it’s great to hear a blogger talking about keeping fit. You’re going great so far and keep up the good work.
When a lot of people talk about the subject of fitness on the Internet they make it sound like it doesn’t fit with sitting at a computer so is a good example of combining the two.

Hey Scott, I just visited your site for the first time in awhile. The photo is hilarious. Don’t you wish you could send it to that lady? Anyway, are you strictly running outdoors or are you a member of a gym? I’ve been thinking about getting into a work out routine, but I need to do this in the morning when I’m fresh. I don’t like working out at night because there’s too much else to do. -K

I do wish I could send that picture to her.
I’m not a member of a gym right now. It never works out when I join. Well, I never work out.
So I primarily run outdoors all year unless there’s too much ice and snow on the road for it to be safe. Then I’ll run on the treadmill in the house (which I hate).

Ok Scott…I was reminded today of your image above (ironic one of the lady on her cell phone). I was crossing the intersection and I noticed a huge white Ford Expedition. You know the ones they discontinued because they were so wasteful. Well anyway on the side there was a simple logo in a box with type that said Environmental Services…I thought that was pretty funny…

Thanks for the link. Keep up the running!

WOW good job that is a lot of running in a week, sounds exhausting. I have to say though that is a very good regiment for weight loss, keep up the good work I am sure you will meet your weight loss goal.

6 Miles is a great effort, I usually manage to run around the block once a week. Although I normally walk to & from work everyday so they really does help keep my fitness up to some degree.
Good Luck!

So… it’s been almost a year, are you a shining adonis or has the whole workout thing fallen by the wayside?
By Shana | Camps Bay on Apr 10, 2008
Winters in New England always put a damper on the workouts, but I’m back at it now.
I like food too much to ever be a shining adonis, but I do ok.
