Google Sucking Up for More Adsense Placement

by Scott Jangro on 26 January 2007

Got an email yesterday from the Google Adsense team with some great news that one of my sites may be included in their “custom placement packs program”.

Custom placement packs are selections of individually-reviewed sites designed for our largest brand advertisers.

I’m impressed. thank you. *puffs up chest*

We would like to feature your site more frequently in these advertiser packages, but to do so, we need you to place more image and text-enabled medium rectangle ad units (300×250) on your site.

that is, until I talked so some friends, a large percentage of whom got the same email.

I’ll be honest, the site they’re referring to in my email is not exactly what I’d put in front of the “largest brands”. In fact, I lost the domain a few months ago. An “individual-review” would have discovered that.

Rollcall: Did you get this email?

Can anyone confirm that this program is real and carries any benefit?

Or is this a thinly veiled attempt to get their #1 performing ad format above the fold on the maximum number of sites with a little flattery?

If you got the email, you’re not that special. sorry.
