Twitter Teams

posted by jangro on (3 years, 10 months ago)

Something really interesting is brewing in the Twitterverse. (Did I just say twitterverse?)

Out of the blue (no pun intended, you'll see), Ze Frank declared that he was on the "Blue Team". No explanation, he changed his picture to contain a blue team badge on the bottom, talked it up a bit, and that was it, @blueteam is born.

Now different colored teams have popped up.

It seems to me that Ze is totally messing with us with another one of his social experiments. But that's ok, we like Ze, and he has permission to screw with our heads. It's amusing anyway.

Gary Vaynerchuk of Winelibrary.tv jumped in both feet and created the @verygreenteam.

It's all sort of silly, but what's interesting is that Twitter has no control over this. They didn't create a Teams or Groups feature. We're just using what we've got to make it happen on this platform they've created. Add some color badges to our profile pictures and all of a sudden...teams!

That must be pretty a pretty cool feeling that something they built is taking on a life of its own. And probably a little scrary. So yeah, I think it's earned the term, "twitterverse".

So far, there's no purpose for this, but Ze Frank seems to be up to something. Keep an eye on it.

In the meantime, I'm going to mess back in my own little way and join two teams, the @verygreenteam and the @blueteam. That gives us the @bluegreenteam, which isn't really a team, it represents two teams. Or maybe it is a team. Who knows? There are no rules. If you want to join me in stressing the system , here's a graphic for you to use.

Yeah, that's the group functionality I was talking about that lots of people seem to want, but the twitter guys haven't implemented.

I don't know if they have plans to do that. In the meantime, it's a free for all. Don't worry about it... tweet away!

I am too lazy today to play with pictures... can join the teams without the blue and green graphics?

I it would be great if you can tell that a twit should be shown in one group but not the other.

    Good question, Peter.

It's difficult to take a look specifically at twitter and assign direct impact that it has on anything.

It's more of a part of a bigger strategy of just "being out there". It's a personal branding tool, and with it, I've got the attention of dozens of people I never would have otherwise.

Who are these dozens of people and how do they help me? Again, difficult to quantify. The intangible benefits build up over time. But like having 500 subscribers on this blog that I reach with every blog post, I've got hundreds of people on twitter that I can reach with a simple "tweet".

I'll stop there before I write what should be a new blog post. ;)

I have always wanted to know what business application Twitter has or had. Your explanation is simple but just. Thanks for your input. Now as far as this Twitter Teams thing, I agree with you, Twitter has lost complete control and now this "Team" fad seems to just be a game on how many people someone can get to follow someone when there just not seem to be any personal or professional value to having more people that anyone can follow, have a conversations with or remember who said what. With all that confusion I see people being turned away from Twitter than more people using it. Or at least that is what I am doing. I look forward to seeing and hearing what else you have to say on this issue.

By the looks of it everyone is jumping in and joining as they type why is most excellent.

Id like to declare Team Twitter the winners of whatever it was we were competing for.

Beauteous white roses are blooming peacefully in the wizard's secret garden. Someone could hear the voice of blooming whilst someone might see the sequel of fading.
