Reader Question: Samsung DLP HLN5065W: Screen shifted during a repair

posted by jangro on (3 years, 10 months ago)

I used the instructions to replace the color wheel from this site, thanks. It took me about an hour and a half to complete the repair only because I took a lot more things apart before I found these color wheel replacement instructions.

The TV is working with no more screaming color wheel and a good picture, however the picture now has a gap at the bottom of the picture. It appears the projector is not aligned correctly to the screen. I did not find instructions on how to be adjuest the lens to insure it is correctly align with the screen.

I tried using the on-screen aligning but this only shifts the picture being projected not adjust the projection on the screen. I need to lower the projection to see the top of the picture and close the gap.

What is the best way to re-align the picture on the screen?

    Hey Chuck,
Did you ever fix the screen shift problem? Mine has done the same and I need to correct the problem. Any information would be helpful. Thanks,

I am using the instructions from this site to replace the color wheel in my Samsung DLP HLN5065. Instructions are great, however I have hit a snag. While trying to remove the white and blue cable coming from the color wheel I broke the connector in the socket; and while trying remove pieces the cable connector the CN socket snapped off and fell down into unit.

Any thoughts on how I should proceed? There is a second socket beneath the socket that broke, is this possibly and alternate?

I have the same picture vertical upshift problem after replacing the color wheel on my HLN507WXXAA. Have you recieved any solution(s) to fix this black bar below the picture problem? (I have adjusted the POS-Y setting down to 0 to reduce the black bar size down to ~ 5 inches, but that's the smallest it gets)

has anyone got an answer for the shifted picture? after replacing the color wheel, and having the connector break in the socket ( i used a pick to pull out the pieces), my picture is shifted up. i've had it apart 3 times to make sure everything is in proper position and in good working order, but can't seem to find why it's shifted.

Hmmm, same thing. Shifted picture on some content. The stretched stuff is fine and some HD is fine. Certain HD material now had gaps on the sides and a little bit at the top. Still looking for the solution. The pictures and directions you gave were great though and I never would have gotten even this far without them. Thanks again for doing this. My current theory on the problem is resolution......maybe some of that HD content is 720p or 1080i and it's shifted for only that rez, that would explain why some stuff is fine. I'm still searching for the answer though and will report back if I find it.

I have the exact same problem after replacing the color wheel. I believe this happens when you don't get the color engine (box mounted with 3 long screw that have springs) back in the exact same place. I still have not found a solution, other than taking it back apart and adjusting the position of the box. I have seen pages that have eluded to a color engine alignment through the service menu, but have not had any success figuring it out.............................any help out there?

I replaced the color wheel, now the blue and red color are off so I tried to access the service menu by pressing mute 1,8,2 then power by so doing I lost my picture but the sound is still on and the light is flashing on the front, the tv starts and run without any picture then tries to shut down and starts again can't turn off from the remote or the tv itself have to pull plug to turn off. this is samsung hlp5063wx/xxa. I changed the lamp about 2 months ago and just changed the color wheel. Please does anybody have any idea what is going on and how I can safely access the service menu to adjust the color that is off.

same problem with picture shift after changing color wheel --anyone know whats up ?

I had the same problem and after a few hours of frustration, figured out what my problem was. While taking my TV apart for the first time, I took too much apart. Poster Joe 231 was correct that it was the color engine that was positioned incorrectly, but the three long screws with the springs do not control its position. I found that there was significant play in the 4 mounting screws (3 brass, 1 black) on mine, and that by loosening all 4 of these and playing with its position, I was able to get the picture back to the center of the screen. The only real tough part of doing this is that you have to work with it while the TV is on, and the lamp is really bright and hot.

We just replaced our color wheel today too, and have the picture out of position as others here have described. Dave - can you be more specific about which mounting screws you adjusted to fix yours? I thought it was those screws with the springs that must have been at issue, but it sounds like you figured out something slightly different.

Also - how did you manage to work with the alignment with the TV on? I had to pull off two boards before being able to get at the assembly that had the color wheel and lamp in it. Can you turn it on with those parts pulled out somehow?

This is probably too late, but I just now found this question b/c I have the same problem... Dan, to answer your question, he's talking about the screws which mount the circuit board. If that's aligned incorrectly, it can move your picture off axis. I hadn't thought about that. You should be able to reach this from the very back without removing engine at all. On my specific model, the screws (again as Dave said, not the ones w/ the springs on them) are under small white caps. There are 3 of them on mine.

Can someone post a picture of what the screws look like that we're supposed to play with to fix the alignment? I changed the color wheel and am having the same alignment problem.
