Names changed to protect the ignorant?
It's been a while since I was in the advertiser side of the CJ interface, but can't they see your referring URLs anyway?
Heh, yeah, something like that. :)
There are many ways she could have determined how we're sending traffic, including referer info in CJ or even in their own logs. This is a merchant who is about as big as they get and easily has resources in CJ to ask about us.
But even so, she could have done the same minimal work and just said,
"Hey, you're sending more sales, that's awesome! If there's anything we can do to help give us a shout.
Please be reminded that we have a no PPC direct linking policy. You're not doing that, right?"
That must be automated, how lame!

Top of idiocracy! It is just like when people living outside of the US aren't able to apply for affiliate programs. Seriously... if you don't want people to promote your product then why even have a program? I would love to have anyone promote my products no matter if they're at the North Pole or in the Jungle of Borneo. Who cares...

I am guessing the "affiliate manager" is just someone in the marketing department or web design department and not someone who acutally knows their stuff. Too many companies skimp on hiring good affiliate managers and there just isn't enough good ones out there. Makes me thankful for the good ones I work with.
Here's a great email exchange that I just had with a merchant that we've been doing pretty well with recently through one of our community shopping sites. Names have been changed to protect the, uh, well, just because.

Me, after mustering up the team to make sure we weren't doing this:Affiliate Manager:
Are you kidding me?
What's wrong with this world when affiliate success is met with an initial assumption that we're doing something wrong?
I can think of a dozen ways in which she could have emailed us in a positive way, but while ensuring that we weren't doing something wrong. That perhaps would have resulted in our doing even more to promote them instead of their competitors.
Now I'm just annoyed at them.
(And, "Jane", if you're reading...no offense, really.)
