Reader Question: Color Wheel

posted by jangro on (4 years, 1 month ago)

I have an HL-R4677W DLP. I purchased it in June 2005 and have already replaced 1 bulb. Yesterday, while the tv was on, I heard a loud "pop"; my screen went black; and then I heard a "click-click-click" sound - even when I turned the tv off. I unplugged the tv from the power supply and the clicking sound stopped. I had a replacement bulb and so I installed it. When I turned the tv back on there was no clicking sound but I did not have any color, either. The picture looks like I have it on a sepia-style setting. I checked the color settings and everything is ok. I have not read where anyone else had color problems with their tv's - only that the color wheel made a loud sound. Is it possible that my color wheel "crashed" - causing my bulb to go at the same time? Thanks.

    Chuck,

It sounds like your color wheel may have shattered. The lamp shines directly into the color wheel, so if you take the lamp out, you should be able to see part of the color wheel. You may be able to see if it is damaged.
