And The Misguided Merchant Award Goes To...

posted by jangro on (5 years, 7 months ago)

Fabulous Furs for their ridiculous suggestion that their users delete all their cookies... "Please be sure to delete all of your internet cookies so that the sale price will display properly to the right of the original price."

ong with a link to How to delete cookie files. Not only is this about the worst thing you could do to your affiliate partners, but it's just plain bad advice for end-users, at least without a warning that all their persistent sessions on other sites will be eliminated just so the user can see an updated sale price.

Screenie taken from here What kind of website design would have a cookie causing sale prices not to show? Maybe "Shift-refresh" would be better advice? Found on ABW, where there's a good ol' fashion lynching going on.

UPDATE: I just noticed, Oct 11, that the offending text has been removed.  Took 'em a while, but good job.

I bet some poor affiliate manager got side-swiped and did not even know that promo went up.

Was pushing Fab Furs in a fashion site I had. Just took it down. What a bunch of creeps.

They have removed it, but they have also lost the trust of their affiliates. I bet, a good number of their affiliates had ended relationship with them.
