Amazon Shipment Abducted by Aliens, Lost Exactly 24 Hours

posted by jangro on (3 years, 3 months ago)

A favorite pastime of mine is stalking my UPS shipments. I love how you can monitor the progress of your package as it makes it way from Amazon, through Kentucky, and eventually to its final destination.

That is until things go wrong.

I ordered a 30" Apple Cinema display from Amazon on Monday with next day delivery. It "shipped" on Monday evening as expected but disappeared from the face of the earth. What would normally be a very predictable trip south of the Mason-Dixon line to Louisville and back up this direction was instead the deafening silence of no updates for the entire day it was supposed to arrive.

My monitor lost almost exactly 24 hours of its life, completely unaccounted for. That's a curious gap in time. 24 hours minus 10 seconds. Spooky. Paging Special Agent Fox Mulder.

Anyway, as you can see, it's back among us and well on it's way.

Oh, and uh, yes, I've purchased a completely over-the-top, unnecessary, but ultimate in displays. 4 years of hard work allows me to justify such a splurge. OK, there's no use. Don't judge me. I have been waiting years to be able to do this.

Stay tuned for a picture of that behemoth sitting next to my new Asus eee PC.

And Amazon is refunding me the overnight shipping charge. All $3.99 of it. (I'm a Prime member.)

I can't wait to see pictures of this one.... always wanted one myself.

I can imagine a killer game of Maelstrom.

Ha! I hear you on justifying the cost. I got one that's not quite as big, but I used the same logic :)

the big monitor i bought for my work desk got moved off my work desk a week later, sucka's so big i spend all my time eye panning and head scrolling. i'm serious, i've got it set it up on my blu-ray dvd production setup desk cuz it was too big to be workable on my daily work / apps desk. i played with the settings but couldn't get comfy with all that real estate... have concluded, like the smashing pumpkins, that... despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage. :-)

I have a 26" version of the same display. Its awesome! Apple makes the best quality LCD monitors. Pretty soon you will wonder how you ever got along without it.

I can see what you're saying Pat, but I've been working for a few years with a 24" iMac flanked by a 23" display and I loved it. I wished the 24" would have gone higher res.

I especially see that now that I've been working all week with only the 23" now that I've replaced the iMac with a Mac Pro.

    C'mon UPS!

OMG so jealous of the super display! My Samsung is 26" widescreen but with the KVM switch I don't get the digital benefit :(

I know the stalking fun of the UPS tracking!

I ordered most of my Christmas presents one year and didn't receive them until February. They looked at me with shock when I refused the shipment.

That would scare me! I'm paranoid when it comes to online shipping.
