Affilipedia - The Wiki for Affiliate Marketing?

posted by jangro on (6 years, 7 months ago)

The Affilipedia is a new website designed to be the Wikipedia of Affiliate Marketing.

Edit: The above link no longer works. Try this: Affilipedia.

My first reaction after reading Shawn Collins' announcement in his blog -- man, what a great idea. There is so much information out there in this industry and so many different players and resources -- networks, merchants, affiliate message boards, blogs -- and I've never seen a central, unbiased, thorough collection of affiliate-related information. Combine that with a very active community, which this industry also has (to say the least), and there's a real chance at producing an active and involved editor-base around a very useful website.

After actually looking at the wiki, honestly, I was a bit put off. Not to knock Shawn's efforts or question his motives, and I know I shouldn't be critical, but it just doesn't feel right. Shawn's response to that is, "don't complain, contribute!", but as it stands now, it all feels a little too much like a Shawnipedia for me to want to jump in and add stuff. Dunno, maybe it's the big ol' picture of Shawn and Missy on the homepage that started me off on the wrong foot. I want to register as an editor just to edit that out of there.

It really is a great idea, I hope it works.

    Hey Scott -

Thanks for the feedback - I certainly want it to be an unbiased resource.

The Affiliate Summit ad has been vaporized.

I'd humbly love to hear any other constructive criticism.

"I certainly want it to be an unbiased resource."

An unbiased resource should have an unbiased domain. All the affilite marketing resources are your own sites. Plus what most people miss in affiliate marketing is the market. It would be nice to have one place to see all but you won't find the people willing to contribute. They're busy making money.

Everybody is welcome to contribute resources.

I'm banking on 100% of the industry not being self-centered.
