Scott,
When you brew espresso is it just like brewed coffee? Does the unit produce enough pressure to give you an espresso shot with crema? I ask because I'm on my second espresso machine in two years. They seem to slowly lose pressure and won't brew anymore (yes, I descale) and I can't justify buying yet another machine to the wife.
The brewed "espresso" is concentrated coffee. I put espresso in quotes because I don't know that it can technically be called espresso, but it is as strong as espresso.
I add hot water to it to make an Ameriano (which is what I always drink when I buy coffee at Starbucks)
There is no crema in the few cups that I've brewed so far. I don't know that it's possible to create that, I doubt it as there's a paper filter that the coffee goes through which would probably defeat the crema.
This may very well be the best Christmas present that changed hands in our house this year, if I do say so myself.
I gave this to my wife who also loves a good cup of coffee. While I'll put myself through just about any coffee-brewing procedure, her priorities are more toward being able to make a good single cup of coffee as fast as possible.
The Aeropress is easy, quick, and neat. And it makes delicious coffee.
I've mostly used it so far to make Americano type coffee (brew up espresso and add hot water to get a full cup), but I used a battery powered milk foamer and made a fantastic cappuccino.
If you love coffee, you owe it to yourself to get this device and try it out. It's inexpensive enough to just give it a go and if it doesn't replace your daily coffee routine, save it for special occasions.
