Use Your Old iPhone as a Backup Phone

by Scott Jangro on 10 December 2009

Now that I have pared down my twitter list to a small enough number of people I’m following so that I can actually pay attention, I saw this come across the twitter stream this morning.

My friend Todd Crawford wants to break his old iPhone 3G so he can get an iPhone 3GS…

There’s a place in your life for two iPhones, especially as someone who travels as much as you do. You can keep the second phone as a battery backup… with a phone attached to it.

Now I’m sure YOU know how to do this, but I’ve spoken to several people who didn’t even know that the iPhone had a SIMM card. So here’s how quick and easy it is to swap between iPhones.

How to Switch SIMM Cards

  • Cool man! Appreciate the tip. I'll have to try this one.
  • The old iPhone can be used on prepaid. You do not need a contract for the old iPhone. I bet the new iPhone will have an option to do prepaid.
  • I had to use BlackRain to hack my iPhone to get it off the lock to 02, (search for it) its totally painless and now i have an iPhone 2G as a backup phone/media player for my car :)
  • cool idea but im a blackberry man myself!
  • my old phone was gonna end up asmetal pressings not now
  • thanks mine aint ready for the bin yet but wen it is!!
