iPhone Haterz

I’m getting used to the standard response that my friends and family have when they see it for the first time:

You Suck! … let me see that thing.

In fact, I’ve embraced it. But what really seems to put them all over the edge is the “Sent from my iPhone” in the footer of every email you send to them. Oddly, this is no different than many other mail applications and devices.

I cannot tell you how many times I’ve seen this:

Sent from my BlackBerry® wireless device

while these four little words:

Sent from my iPohone

bring out the worst in people.


Here are some of the responses I’ve received just from leaving that passive text in the footer.

“Sent from my iPhone” It’s the 2007 way to say “I am cooler than you.”

I’m not even going to respond to the pomposity of having ‘Sent from my iPhone’ as your sig, Scott (doesn’t mean I’m not envious).

Sent from my couch.

Sent from my Latitude D620

Don’t they all just seem to say, “You suck!”?

I was going to take it out, but now I don’t think I will. This is too much fun.
In fact, I think I’ll add it to my regular email sig.

Fellow iPhone owners (iPhowners?), are you getting this treatment?

  • I never bought in to the whole Apple thing. However, as a long time NeXT user I finally broke down and bought a Mac after OS X had been out for a year. I was a convert in no time. I bought an original iPod and loved it. My wife, who initially derided me for using a Mac instead of a PC, became a convert in short order.

    Apple really has a knack for producing sexy tech gadgets that function, and if you've used OS X for any length of time, you know how lacking Windows is, and how Linux isn't really so cool after all.

    Oh well in two years I will be lucky... unless AT&T goes out of business before.
  • I removed the line after activating my iPhone, i don't want to show off too much so i'll keep the line blank for now :)

    Granted, I may have been of the same opinion of a blackberry if I'd ever used one. But the Treo doesn't hold a candle. You get the best of both worlds, I guess. Grab your wife's phone for a quick fix.

    I also hear great things about the Nokia E70. ;)

    Maybe they were just trying to say, "Come on, Scott, go into settings and customize the sig. It takes 5 seconds, and only clueless monkeys leave the default text."

    Or maybe they're just jealous.

    I set up the iPhone for my wife, and it was a fun device, but I really prefer the Blackberry 8800.
