Jangro’s Gone Green (For Real)

If you're new here, please subscribe to my RSS feed. And follow me on twitter. Thanks for visiting!

So I just turned in my leased 2007 BMW 325xi. I thought I’d be more disappointed to let it go.

I’ve been driving my new car for a few weeks now, a 2008 Nissan Altima hybrid.

Yes. I’ve gone from a 6 cylinder 6-speed manual transmission sports sedan to a 4 cylinder gas sipper and you know what? I love it.

Part of it is the benefit of buying a Nissan vs. A luxury class car like the Infiniti. I can load up the car with all the extras and still come out ahead of the game.

But I’m really enjoying the hybrid. It has turned me into a hyper-miler, albeit a really lazy one as the car does all the obsessive gas-saving stuff for you.

It has also turned me into a different sort of driver. The BMW wanted to jump off the line and who was I not to oblige? ;)
The altima hybrid can certainly get out of it’s own way but it is more fun to see how far I can get on the battery before the motor kicks in.

It is a strange mindset for me to be in but here I am. If I can do it, so can the rest of America!

  1. Sweet ride! Nice choice of hybrid.

  2. I say you make a moving video in the hybrid.

  3. You shouldl look into converting it to a plugin hybrid. It charges the batteries overnight so that you almost always run on batteries instead of motor. It seems to be becoming common with the Prius.

  4. Looks sharp Scott, and the coolest thing in my opinion was that you didn't even have to use a key.

  5. Welcome aboard Scott! I bought a Prius 2 years ago and it's really saved me a ton of money commuting into Cambridge 4 days/wk. It helps that I spend most of my time sitting in traffic on the pike. You also get to have that smug feeling when you drive by a gas-guzzling SUV.

Be careful though, 3 times now I have had other Prius pull up along side of me and ask me what mileage I'm getting to see who is better. it should be the next Olympic sport it seems. Game on!

    Alyssa 55.3 (yes, that's .3) MPG. ;-)

  6. Thanks Alyssa.

The Altima doesn't touch the Prius as it's a much bigger car.

I'm very happy with my 37.1 though, which is above the 35 on the sticker.

  7. real gas mileage…

This is similar to comment spam but avoids some of the safeguards designed to stop the latter practice. The TrackBack specification…

  8. Kaleigh…

A friend is someone who sees through you and still enjoys the view….

  9. Saving Money On Gas With Hybrid Car…

Interesting - because that is the same thing I found out last Thursday….

  10. downloads for iphone…

I found your blog at Technorati and thought of checking it out….

  11. water powered cars…

great post and nice site :) Glad I found it….

  12. nice pick! I own a BMW 630i (500cmc more then your engine) and it consumes like 16 per 100km. That's really high because the price of the gasoline here is like 1.5$/ litre . Im thinking of buying a hybrid lexus but this way , i will have to sell my sports car which i love(exept the consuption). Anyways i think you will use more the Nissan then the BMW. Btw whats ur consuption for the 325xi?

  13. We work in miles and gallons here, so it's hard to compare without thinking too hard. :)

I was getting about 23 mpg on the bmw.

  14. well done I applaud you, I own a honda Jazz so I pat myself at the same time

  15. That’s a sweet looking ride. My uncle has the Prius and I’m leaning to get one as well. But since I’m in still in school, I’ll most likely get an electric motor bike for jetting around campus.

  16. Good for you Scott! I think it is great that you are setting a good example for others and also spreading the word about it!

  17. Hybrid car would be nice with the petrol prices in Finland. One litre costs about 1,4 euros($1.8/litre), it is pretty much.

  18. Nice BMW. I like the BMW 335i converter better because the lights are more sleeker. Petrol prices have fallen so I'm not so much concern about green vehicles at the moment.

  19. The Altima Hybrid looks sporty enough for a sedan and serves family and wallet well.

  20. [...] always surprises us by being different one post was his Going Green and then he was one of the first people to ever post real time tweets about his son’s birth [...]

  21. Its funny you mention, Nissan and Infiniti because Nissan makes Infiniti cars. But I could see how hybrids are appealing. I personally believe Infinitis and other luxury cars are just as nice though. To get the best of both worlds, coming up in 2010 Infiniti is coming out with a new hybrid version of the G35. Its luxury and hyrbrid
