Advanta Affiliate Card: When something seems too good to be true…

by Scott Jangro on 09 January 2006

Having heard from several people now that there’s a credit card from Advanta that offers 5% back on PPC purchases, I checked it out.

Shawn Collins writes about it here: Affiliate Marketers now have their own credit card

And from the Advanta Application…

“Here is the VERY BEST credit card for Affiliate Marketers”…”5% Cash Back on PPC advertising including Google, Overture, and Miva.”

But alas…read the fine print.

“A maximum of $300 in Cash Back rewards can be earned on this account in any enrollment year, with a maximum of $25 in Cash Back rewards earned in any billing cycle.”

Not to scoff at $300 or anything, but I was seeing serious dollar-signs, so this is was bit of a disappointment.

Update 1/18/2006:
I had an email exchange today with the Affiliate Manager at Advanta who ensured me that they in no way meant for this to be misleading. I believe her, and assurred her that it wasn’t Advanta marketing that had me going but what several other people had told me. She said that she’d take a look at the offer on their site to make sure it isn’t TOO buried. Surely they don’t want to put it in bold-face.

And again, $300 is $300 (in increments of $25/month) and not a bad thing. If you don’t have SOME way to get a little sumpin-sumpin for your ad-spend, then it may be a good option. Personally, I like AMEX points and thankfully don’t need the credit.
