When David Lewis gave me a shout before publishing his story titled Triple Jangro, I said, “sure, go ahead, it is funny.” The story is about three guys who left Commission Junction under a new policy prohibiting employees from participating as affiliates, to presumably become affiliates. I also left CJ in 2004 to become an affiliate, not due to any policy but just that it was time for me to go.
I had no idea the flurry of activity that would come of it. I doubt David did either.
Adam Viener, clearly bothered by the issue wrote an inflamatory entry about the issue.
Vinny Lingham posted a more pragmatic writeup and follow up after speaking with management from CJ.
Steve Shubitz also wrote about this issue.
Revenue Today picked it up and wrote a preview to their magazine article. Technical issues that persist even today on their site prevented any comments there.
What brings this up again is that Lisa Picarille published the story in the latest edition of Revenue Magazine: “Data Double Duty: Affiliates fear the threat of potential privacy breeches at networks and by search companies.” All of the above parties, as well as Jeff Pullen from CJ and others were interviewed for the story. Interesting how stories in blogs materialize and burn out months before they appear in print.
For the record, Lisa didn’t contact me for the article, which is fine as I actually don’t have much to do with the story. She did say that I left CJ “several months ago”, which she probably got from David’s blog. In fact, it’s been a year and a half. Time does fly.
With this article, my name continues to survive as this issue’s moniker. Thanks David, for the legacy. “Grandpa, tell us again about the Triple Jangro“.
It’s no Triple Lindy, but I guess I’ll take it.
