Maryland Affiliates Time to Step it Up!

It is do or die time to oppose Maryland’s affiliate sales tax clause in the Budget Reconciliation and Financing Act (BRFA).

The committee is meeting this week to determine whether MD resident affiliates will constitute a sales presence (nexus) for out of state merchants making them responsible for collecting sales tax from Maryland-based customers.

Like what happened last year in New York, and is even starting to happen in Connecticut ahead of their similar legislation, many online merchants will terminate relationship with affiliates in Maryland.

Contact your our state senator today! Go here to identify your local senator. http://mdelect.net/electedofficials/. It’s potentially too late to send a letter, but send it and follow up with a fax, make a call, send an email, and for maximum impact, visit their offices.
